10th ICC B-MENA Regional Consultive Group Meeting – ICC HQ 10 June 2024, Paris – France

The Regional Consultative Group Meeting was led by ICC Georgia.

ICC Syria represented by Mr. Khalil Sara –Secretary General, and Ms. Mouna Kiwan the Administrative Consultant and International Affairs Coordinator.

The following topics were discussed:

1. Update on recent ICC HQ activities by the ICC Secretary General.

  • Mainly stressing the fact that the project for a task force examining the complaints of various B-MENA NCs about overcompliance by banks on implementation of economic sanctions regulations, has been approved by B20 group.

2. The online survey on financial inclusion and on Financial Action Task Force (FATF) circulated to members and local Chambers, supported by multiple Chambers of Commerce in the region, ICC has created a survey to gather insights from businesses across the B-MENA region about how financial over-compliance impacts business access to financial services and their ability to operate which has been proven to affect regions differently, the Task Force focuses on critical issues, raised from the survey results, and develop solutions to discuss with international stakeholders like the G7, G20, and FATF.

3. Reports from National Committees, Mr. Khalil Sara – ICC Syria Secretary General presented an introduction of ICC Syria’s activities and highlighted the importance of B-MENA RCG project for a task force now in the process of being setup, with a view to tackle the occurrence of over compliance of banks regarding the implementation of sanctions. Also invited the NCs to reestablish insurance commissions as this sector is very important in international trade facilitation, and Ms. Mouna Kiwan exposed ICC Syria’s activities and plan for the 2024.

1. ICC One-click SME Tool Kit.  2. Update on Model Contracts now available from HQ. 3. Membership Data evolution. 4. New NCs information: formation of ICC Iraq and ICC Tajikistan.

We are proud of the fact that the report of ICC B-MENA Regional Consultive Group, which was presented during ICC World Council meeting on June 11, 2024 in Paris, included the mention of the achievements of ICC Syria among the achievements of the region in terms of projects that support women (as Vice President and Director of the thematic Committee of the Union of Mediterranean Confederation of Enterprises), and the activities of the Insurance Committee.
