Experts and veterans from the insurance sector delivered the training. Mr. Malek Al-Botros, General Manager of the United Insurance Company, and Mr. Rami Ibrahim, Deputy General Manager, Technical of Solidarity Alliance Insurance Co., with the participation of Mr. Al-Hamzah Al-Sheikh Yassin from the Arab Union Reinsurance Company.
The training course focused on creating the will to bring the skills needed to provide services in insurance practices and build the capacity of insurance companies’ staff to elevate their performances in all insurance fields.
The second was the ICC Syria Insurance Committee Launching Ceremony, in the presence of several members of the ICC Syria Board of Directors, chaired by Mr. Naji Chaoui, and with the participation of representatives of the Insurance Supervisory Authority, the Syrian Insurance Federation, Arab Union Reinsurance Company, and a number of general managers and CEOs of insurance companies and banks in Syria.
At the initiative of the board and its president and in light of the need for such a committee to promote cooperation and collaboration within the insurance sector to meet the challenges the Syrian economy is experiencing, ICC Syria launched the National Insurance Committee.
ICC Syria Chair, Mr. Naji Chaoui, addressed that the committee aims to shed light on the importance of the insurance sector, which is essential in facilitating trade between countries, by reactivating this committee nationally. Its ultimate goal is to help set up, on its merit, the international insurance committee, which was assimilated into the banking committee in the late 1990s.
In addition, Mr. Chaoui added that the ICC, headquartered in Paris, embodies 105 National Committees, including our National Committee in Syria, and comprises more than 45 million companies and business associations worldwide, representing investors at the highest levels. It also enhances and promotes a partnership between the private sector and international organizations by occupying an observer seat at the United Nations and the World Trade Organization.
The head of the insurance committee, Mr. Marwan Affaki, who pioneered this initiative, pointed out the importance of the insurance sector in promoting and facilitating trade and exchanges between nations.
Mr. Affaki focused on the idea that the insurance committee will become a platform for the stakeholders in the insurance sector to develop the studies and recommendations necessary to create the required awareness of its importance within the ICC network on an international level.
During the ceremony, Ms. Mouna Kiwan, ICC Syria Administrative Consultant and Secretary of the Insurance Committee, presented an overview of ICC Syria’s activities and its role as a global business organization, focusing on its activities in Syria with the aim of permanent and direct communication with stakeholders in various economic sectors and focusing on the internationally accredited training and qualifications provided by ICC as a representative of 105 international chambers of commerce to provide professional courses and workshops through its chambers and ICC’s educational arm, the ICC Academy.
