H.E. Mr. Muhsen Abdulkarim Ali, Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, attended the General Assembly for the year 2023 of the International Chamber of Commerce Syria (ICC Syria), which was held at Sheraton Damascus Hotel on Monday September 18, 2023, exclusively sponsored by Bank Al-Sharq S.A.S. .

Were present, as well, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, Corporates Directorate and ICC Board Members and members within the quorum limitation as defined by the bylaws of the International Chamber of Commerce Syria.

ICC Syria Chair, Mr. Naji Chaoui opened the General Assembly by welcoming the minister, as well as all members present.

Mr. Chaoui assured that ICC Syria continued to engage with the national stakeholders, as well as on the level of the International Chamber of Commerce, through its participation in the international conferences, and the specialized ICC commissions.

The minister addressed the Session and stressed on the importance of the role that ICC plays as a regulator of the International Trade in the world, as well as, the role of ICC Syria to represent Syrian economy internationally.

Mr. Charbel Frem, Bank Al-Sharq General Manager, provided an overview on banking sector’s services in the Syrian market. He also presented a summary of Bank Al-Sharq main activities and banking services, focusing on deposits and credit facilities offered, to support Syrian productive sectors and the growth of the Syrian economy.

Followed by the speech of Mr. Marwan Affaki, ICC Syria Board Member/ Head of Insurance Committee, which was established at the initiative of ICC Syria to be a starting point for the reactivation of the Insurance Committee at the global level,  in his op-ed he presented the work and activities of the Committee at the local level, which contributes to the development of the Syrian insurance market, by exchanging of experiences in cooperation with ICC.

ICC Syria 2022 Annual Report, in addition to TIR and BUSINESSMED activities were overviewed.

Ms. Mouna Kiwan ICC Syria Administrative Consultant | International Affairs Coordinator, provided information about ICC Commissions: Arbitration, Banking, Intellectual Property, Commercial Law and Practices and Insurance.

Furthermore, Ms. Kiwan presented ICC Syria International and Professional Trainings, with an overview about the ICC Academy courses.

The budget for 2022 was approved by the members of the General Assembly.

During the session ICC Syria board of directors were elected for the new mandate.

The GA was followed by honoring ICC Syria's sponsors during the year 2023.
